AI basics you can use today

Short explanations for the questions people actually ask. Open any lesson and take what you need.

What is a chatbot?

A chatbot is a program you talk to in everyday language. Modern AI chatbots predict useful next words from patterns learned across large collections of material. They do not “know” things the way a person does, and they can confidently make mistakes.

What makes a good prompt?

Give the model a clear job, useful context, any limits, and the format you want back. A strong prompt is less like a magic phrase and more like a clear brief to a capable helper.

Task + Context + Constraints + Format
“Compare these…”“For a beginner…”“Under 200 words…”“Use a table.”
What does “AI model” mean?

A model is the trained engine underneath an AI product. ChatGPT is a product; GPT-6 is one model that can power it. Different products may use different models for speed, cost or harder tasks.

What are open weights?

The “weights” are the learned numerical values inside a model. When weights are open, developers can download and run them on their own equipment, subject to the model’s license. That is not always the same as releasing the training data or full source code.

Can AI answers be wrong?

Yes. A model can invent details, merge unrelated facts or rely on outdated information. Check important claims against original sources — especially medical, legal, financial and safety decisions.

Is my data private?

Policies differ by product and plan. Before sharing private material, check whether your chats are used for training, whether history can be disabled, and whether your workplace has approved the tool. Avoid entering passwords, financial account details or information you do not have permission to share.
