The week in AI

Breakthroughs, releases and funding moves in straightforward language. Company claims are labeled as claims; uncertain plans stay uncertain.

Models

GPT-6 rolls out with answers that turn interactive.

Paid ChatGPT tiers began receiving GPT-6 Sol on Oct 7; Free and Go followed with GPT-6 Luna on Oct 8. Its “Intelligent UI” can render useful controls and visuals in an answer. OpenAI says search starts 44% faster than GPT-5.6 Instant.

Math

OpenAI publishes hundreds of AI-produced math results.

The collection spans 722 manuscripts and 372 result families. The work remains unverified; only a fraction has been formally checked, and at least 25 Fields Medalists objected to its presentation.

Open weights

Mistral previews its trillion-parameter Large 4.

The multimodal sparse model has a one-million-token context window. Open weights are promised by roughly Oct 27, but were not yet available when this page was prepared.

Gated access

Gemini 4 Argon arrives — but not for everyone.

Google reports a one-million-token output limit and 77.9% on DeepSWE v1.1. Initial access is limited to selected cyber defenders and early US government users; no public API date was announced.

Trust

Google opens SynthID Detector globally in English.

Anyone can upload an image, video or audio file to check for the invisible SynthID watermark. Google says it has marked more than 180 billion images and videos since 2023.

Transparency

OpenAI introduces textGrain watermarking in the EU.

The statistical watermark subtly shapes word choice in ChatGPT and Codex output. Its detector is restricted to approved researchers, and OpenAI says editing can sharply reduce detection.

Efficiency

Samsung releases LittleBit code for tiny model weights.

LittleBit compresses models to 0.1–1.0 bits per weight. Samsung claims up to 11.6× faster inference than FP16; the renewed story is the public code release, not entirely new research.

Research

A better visual memory helps Claude ace ARC-AGI-3.

MIT’s training-free VISTA harness gave Claude Opus 5.0 a lossless visual “photo album.” It reached 100.00 relative human action efficiency on all 25 public games, pointing to perception and memory as bottlenecks.

Funding

Manus parent closes a round above $500 million.

Butterfly Effect’s round was co-led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital at a reported valuation near $4 billion, following the Manus 2.0 and Cue launch.

Markets

Anthropic is reportedly aiming for a pre-Thanksgiving IPO.

Bloomberg reporting says marketing could begin the week of Nov 9 at a possible $1.8–2 trillion valuation. The plans are not final.

Funding

DeepSeek is reportedly close to a roughly $12 billion round.

Bloomberg reporting cited Tencent and CATL in a round of at least 80 billion yuan, ahead of a possible 2027 IPO. The deal had not closed when reported.

Open weights

Reflection AI launches Beam for coding and reasoning.

The 501-billion-parameter sparse model uses 23 billion parameters per token. Reflection says Apache 2.0 weights are coming later in October.

Model tracker

What the new models actually mean

A jargon-light snapshot of the major models in this month’s news. “Parameters” are the internal values a model learned; “open weights” means developers can download those learned values and run the model themselves.

GPT-6

OpenAI

A general-purpose model arriving inside ChatGPT. The clearest shift is presentation: it can build interactive controls into answers instead of returning text alone.

Sol serves paid tiers; Luna serves Free and Go.
OpenAI claims faster starts for web-search answers.
AccessRolling out in ChatGPT. Paid rollout began Oct 7; Free and Go followed Oct 8.

Mistral Large 4

Mistral AI

A natively multimodal model built with a sparse mixture-of-experts design — meaning only part of its huge network is used for each piece of text.

1.05 trillion total parameters.
Roughly 49–52 billion active per token.
One-million-token context window.
AccessPublic API preview. Downloadable weights promised for late October 2026.

Gemini 4 Argon

Google DeepMind

Google’s frontier model emphasizes very long output and software-engineering work. Its headline performance figures come from Google.

Google reports a one-million-token output limit.
Intro API price reported at $2 input / $10 output per million tokens, planned to rise to $4 / $20.
AccessGated to selected cyber defenders and early US government users. No public API date announced.

Beam

Reflection AI

An open-weight model focused on coding, reasoning and agent-style work. Reflection positions it as a US-built alternative in the open-model race.

501 billion total parameters.
23 billion active per token.
Text only.
AccessApache 2.0 weights promised later in October 2026.

Claude Opus 5.0

Anthropic

The important October result was not a new model alone, but a better way to supply visual memory. MIT’s VISTA harness stored every game frame and fed that history back to the model.

Reached 100.00 relative human action efficiency on 25 public ARC-AGI-3 games with VISTA.
The result suggests interface and memory design can unlock capability.
Why it mattersA smarter harness can matter as much as a smarter model.
